Gum Disease is treated at our clinic. Gum disease is the inflammation (and, eventually, infection) of the tissue surrounding the teeth, most notably the gums. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that causes the gums to become red and swollen, as well as bleeding. If treated quickly, the disease can be treated. If untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, a more serious form of gum disease that can lead to infection and loose teeth that must be extracted. Plaque and tartar, which are coatings on your teeth and gums, are formed when millions of bacterial cells in your mouth combine with mucus and food particles. Regular brushing and flossing remove these substances. However, if they are not removed on a regular basis, they can cause gum disease and periodontitis.
